Mapleton Grange open as shelter during flooding

From LCSO

The Lane County Sheriff's Office has requested a shelter from the American Red Cross for the residents of Mapleton who may experience flooding overnight.

The American Red Cross has opened the Mapleton Grange as a place for people to stay warm and dry through the night.

The Mapleton Grange is open now and any residents anticipating the need to self-evacuate to the shelter are encouraged to do so before it gets dark this evening.

There is no evacuation advisory in effect; this is a precautionary measure to keep people safe in case the situation becomes worse overnight when the Siuslaw river level is forecasted to peak.
There are no phones being staffed for this shelter opening.

Location is:
Mapleton Grange Hall

Take health precautions after the flood

From Benton County

The Benton County Health Department is receiving reports of basement flooding in some residences.

Often the source of this flooding is from sewage or combined storm water systems that have become overwhelmed because of regional flooding. It is best to assume that any flood water may contain dangerous bacteria or chemicals. If possible avoid contact with flood water. If you must work in flood waters wear boots, gloves and protective clothing to offer increased protection. Wash with soap and water as soon as possible after exposure to reduce your risk of becoming ill.
